Where to go? Where to go? Where to go on your honeymoon…. Isn’t that the question running around in your mind? Budget, time and a thousand different choices – not to mention different tastes between husband and wife – all make the decision hard. Fortunately, you can hardly go wrong. There are dozens of affordable honeymoon vacations for every country, activity or style you can imagine.
Aruba
Aruba remains one of the top honeymoon destinations around, year after year. This island 15 miles off the coast of Venezuela remains warm and sunny all year. It’s only a few hours by plane from New York and many cruise ships make it a stop along the way to other ports of call.
Miles of white sandy beaches offer the chance to laze around and soak up the sun. Or, you can set off on a romantic horseback ride you’ll remember for a lifetime. Take a boat tour of the surrounding waters and marvel at all the undersea life you’ll see from your glass-bottomed transport.
Costa Rica
Costa Rica continues to rank high among newlyweds seeking a honeymoon vacation spot. This country in Central America squeezed between Panama and Nicaragua offers lush mountains with breathtaking waterfalls. Honeymooners can go whitewater rafting or visit the Irazu volcano. Scuba dive in the morning then have lunch and go out for kayaking later in the day. Visit Makanda By the Sea and enjoy the rainforest gardens set high above the Costa Rican coastline.Maybe you like sun, but want something with a little more evidence of civilization. Easy…
Italy
Italy offers a huge variety of options to explore. The Italian Alps provides skiing and breathtaking natural views from the chalet. Or, tour Turin and see some of the sights that have thrilled honeymoon couples for nearly 2,000 years.
You and your new spouse might enjoy a little museum hopping. Visit the Egyptian Museum or the Agnelli Picture Gallery. Do a little shopping then settle down in an outdoor cafe and hold hands while you watch the world walk by.
England
Don’t neglect to consider England, either. It may not be the first place that pops to mind when considering romantic honeymoon vacations. But it should be. After all courtly love was popular here centuries ago and has never faded.
Take a tour of Leeds Castle in Maidstone, Kent and see where real courtly love was practiced. You’ll come away knowing why it’s called the loveliest castle in the world. Vacation packages include tours of the rolling green countryside and many other extras.
If you prefer the sea, check out the Isle of Wight. Honeymoon packages include sailing, powerboat racing and other water-oriented activities. Check out some of the famed churches by day then visit a nightclub that evening. Where else can you get the sacred and the sexy in one honeymoon spot?
Whatever type of honeymoon vacation you seek, there are spots around the world that offer affordable packages.

One of the most attractive Greek Islands, Santorini is placed in the southern part of Aegean Sea and it is said to be romantic, dreamy, and magical. Its loveliness is more spectacular than lush and along with its infertile black sand beaches, white washed walls, and high cliffs. Santorini is considered one of the best romantic destinations on the planet, ideal for honeymooners, providing out of this world breathtaking views and sunsets of the deep azure Caldera.
It was actually a tossup between Venice and Rome, but they have one common thing, the “amore” emotion, with Venice going on top for that. Situated in Northern Italy, this city is artistically beautiful and provides you with a sense of serenity at the moment you come. The most idealistic thing to do here would betake the Gondola Ride down the Venice’s canals, something to try when you are here.
Paris, Romance hub of the planet, is best place for a honeymoon. Everything about this city is romantic, from Parisian haut couture to the marble-sided streets and walkways with tiny cafés at every corner; Paris filters a laid-back sense ideal for newlyweds. Walk along the Seine, take a tour to the outstanding Eiffel tower that provides a jaw dropping sight of the lights’ city.
While the Earth is filled with amazingly beautiful destinations to visit on your honeymoon, there are a few in which you can find all that Europe offers to you. This continent has a fantastic share of history, tradition, culture, refinement, romantic destinations, wonderful landscapes and outstanding cities.

I would highly recommend Charleston, SC. Downtown is absolutely amazing. It’s a great town for walking and sightseeing. The old houses, churches and cemeteries are amazing. There are tons of shops and restaurants around too. I highly recommend stopping into the visitors center downtown and talking to one of the "advisers" they can give you maps of downtown with information on the houses and other buildings and let you in on some little known treasures around town. It’s the perfect town to walk around and enjoy the sights and each others company.
If I had my honeymoon to do over again I would definitely go there! There are tons of hotels in downtown, but you will come out much cheaper if you stay in a hotel away from downtown and then drive into downtown for the day. There are plenty of parking garages and lots around where you can park and walk the town. Congratulations and have fun!
I don’t think there is direct beach access in Charleston, however there are several beaches close by. There is access at Folly’s Beach (about 11 miles away) and at Sullivan’s Island (about 10 miles away) Here is a PDF guide to all the public beach accesses in S.C. http://www.scdhec.net/environment/ocrm/pubs/docs/beach_access.pdf
If you want to consider staying at either of these places instead of in Charleston here are some links of other things to see and do:
Sullivan’s Island: http://www.sciway.net/city/sullivansisland.html (There are no hotels/motels at Sullivan’s Island)
Folly’s Beach: http://www.sciway.net/city/follybeach.html (There is one hotel at Folly’s Beach. It’s waterfront and is a Holiday Inn.)
There are more historical sights and sightseeing at Sullivan’s Island, but far more restaurants, bars and pubs in Folly’s Island.
If you just want to go somewhere and relax on the beach, Hilton Head Island does have some beautiful beachs. While it doesn’t have the historic charm that Charleston does, it offers nature preserves, tons of resturants, spas, and golf. Hilton Head can be quite expensive though. (Not sure when you’re going, but during the summer months, you’ll be looking to pay at least $120+ a night for a hotel room.) The one bonus though is that it’s only about 35 miles from Savannah. (While Charleston is about 100 miles)
